SPORTS IN SCHOOLS GEAR UP FOR IMPLEMENTATION

AfricaPress-Tanzania: THE countrywide sports revival bid which goes with the introduction of sports curriculum in schools, has started to pay off with its first alumni graduate this year.

Joyce Ndalichako, who heads the Ministry of education, confirmed in Dodoma that the beneficiaries of the sports curriculum will start doing their ordinary and advance level examinations this year.

The government has directed heads of Primary and Secondary schools countrywide to immediately start revival of sports education so as groom quality sportsmen and women.

The declaration aimed to start implementation of President Joseph Magufuli order for the revival of sports in both Primary and Secondary schools countrywide so that Tanzania becomes a country that produces quality sportsmen and women capable of winning global level honours.

The order to start implementing better sports education in schools came from Dodoma during a joint meeting of the Ministries of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, President Office TAMISEMI and Science and Technology since the three are directly responsible with sports and schools in the local governments.

“ I order all heads of schools countrywide to start implementing sports education, govern sports lessons and activities to ensure the whole exercise is well executed to give the desired success,” said Innocent Bashungwa, the Minister for Information , Culture, Arts and Sports.

He as well ordered the establishment of sports curriculum in both Primary and Secondary schools. Adding, the Minister of State in the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government, Selemani Jafo said the government will monitor and supervise the whole exercise through district and regional education officers.

“All district municipal councils are required to prepare areas specially designed to stage sports activities while district and regional development directors are required to govern and supervise the well-being sports infrastructure in their areas,” directed Jafo.

Jafo also warned against invasion of areas that are specially designed to host sports activities and ordered the officials to ensure no one invades sports grounds.

Additionally, the Minister for Education and technology Joyce Ndalichako said her ministry has completed sports curriculum and in some schools there pupils and students who are learning it.

Adding, she said some of the beneficiaries are expected to do their Form 1V and V1 examinations this year.
