Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda is set to host the African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA) Conference and Expo in 2027, marking a major milestone for the country’s coffee sector and reinforcing its growing leadership role in Africa’s coffee industry.

The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the AFCA 2026 Conference and Expo in Addis Ababa, where Uganda participated through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).

AFCA is Africa’s premier coffee platform, bringing together coffee-producing countries, international buyers, roasters, policymakers, researchers, and development partners to promote African coffees in global markets.

Accepting the hosting responsibility on behalf of the Government of Uganda, MAAIF Commissioner for Coffee Production and Development, Dr. Gerald Kyalo, noted that coffee remains a strategic commodity for Uganda supporting millions of farming households, contributing significantly to export earnings, and driving rural economic transformation.

Uganda is Africa’s leading coffee exporter and the world’s second-largest producer of Robusta coffee, alongside a fast-growing Arabica segment produced across diverse agro-ecological zones.

Government interventions in recent years have focused on improving productivity, enhancing quality, promoting value addition, and strengthening sustainability and traceability systems to meet evolving global market requirements.

Hosting AFCA 2027 is expected to provide Uganda with a unique opportunity to showcase its coffee diversity, attract investment, expand market linkages, and promote tourism and business opportunities linked to the coffee value chain.

The event will also offer a platform for Ugandan farmers, processors, exporters, and young entrepreneurs to directly engage with global industry players.

MAAIF indicated that preparations for AFCA 2027 will be undertaken in close collaboration with AFCA, the private sector, and development partners to ensure a successful and impactful conference.

Uganda is expected to unveil the conference theme, host city, and begin nationwide stakeholder engagements in the coming months.

Uganda’s selection to host AFCA 2027 signals strong confidence in the country’s coffee sector reforms and its readiness to host a major international industry event positioning the country at the centre of Africa’s coffee future.
