Africa-Press – Uganda. A total of 15 parliamentary candidates have been successfully nominated in Moroto District following the conclusion of the two-day nomination exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Among those cleared are several prominent figures, including Frank Lorika Adome, the NRM flag bearer for Moroto Municipality, and John Baptist Lokii, the NRM flag bearer for Matheniko County, who also doubles as the newly elected NRM Vice Chairperson for Karamoja.

Independent candidate Fred Angella, who was Adome’s main rival in the NRM primaries, was also nominated. Ceasar Akol, another independent candidate, will contest for the Matheniko County seat.

In Tepeth County, nominations saw Albert Lokoru, running as an independent candidate, and Michael Lokawa Wilson, the NRM flag bearer, both successfully cleared by the commission.

The Moroto Woman MP race also drew significant attention, featuring NRM flag bearer Stella Atyang, independent candidates Lucy Chegem and Bonisca Apuun, and FDC flag bearer Hellen Kiyayi.

Other candidates nominated include independent contenders Charles Adyaka, contesting for the Moroto Municipality MP seat, and Dean Raphael Lotukei, contesting for Matheniko County.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) also fielded candidates George Ojamuge for Moroto Municipality and Robert Logit for Tepeth County.

Former NUP candidate Zainab Angella was also nominated to run under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket for the Moroto Municipality MP seat, bringing the total number of nominees to 15.

Speaking after the conclusion of the exercise, Esther Ajwang, the Moroto District Election Administrator, said the process had proceeded smoothly without any major incidents.

“The exercise went on well. All candidates who appeared with the required documents were successfully nominated,” Ajwang said.

The completion of the nomination process officially sets the stage for the campaign period in Moroto District, as candidates now shift their focus to voter outreach and mobilisation across the sub-counties.
