Africa-Press – Uganda. A joint security task force has arrested 255 suspects during coordinated operations targeting crime hotspots across Wakiso District and Kampala.
The operations, conducted on February 16, covered Nansana West Ward, Kyebando and Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county and Nansana Municipality; Kitukutwe, Kiwologoma and Namugongo Nsawo zones in Kira Municipality; Kyanja under Kira Road Policing Area; and selected black spots within the Central Business District.
Police said the targeted locations had been identified as gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities affecting residents and the public.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, 38 in Kira Municipality, 16 in Kyanja, and 136 suspects including 134 men and two women within the city centre.
“All suspects were screened and charged with offenses related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other related crimes,” Owoyesigyire said, adding that exhibits of suspected narcotics were recovered during the operations.
The suspects are currently detained at respective police stations pending processing and court appearance.
Owoyesigyire said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
“The operations were successful and form part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements, dismantle criminal gathering points, and ensure the continued safety and security of the public,” he said.
The Force said similar operations will continue to maintain law and order and provide a peaceful environment for citizens.
