Africa-Press – Uganda. Anjello Pulkol has been declared the winner of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag for the Moroto District Chairperson seat, dislodging incumbent David Koryang in a highly competitive race.

Anjello, currently serving as the Loputuk Sub County Councilor, secured a commanding victory that signals a shift in the district’s political dynamics.

He garnered the party’s endorsement after defeating his closest challenger, John Tunta Lokwang, who polled 8,553 votes.

The incumbent, Koryang, came a distant third with 3,852 votes.

The announcement sparked celebrations across Moroto, where residents hailed Anjello’s win as a victory for grassroots representation and youthful leadership.

“I am humbled by the trust my people have placed in me. I pledge to serve with commitment and integrity,” Anjello said shortly after being declared winner.

“This flag belongs to everyone who believes in a better, more inclusive Moroto.”

Anjello has built a reputation as a hands-on local leader, known for championing issues affecting ordinary citizens, including access to basic services, youth empowerment, and land rights.

He has also worked closely with security forces on disarmament efforts, a move credited with reducing armed violence in parts of the district.

His rise reflects a growing wave of young leaders in Moroto seeking to take on higher political offices to effect change both locally and nationally.

Political analysts say Anjello’s victory represents public fatigue with entrenched leadership and signals a desire for a fresh approach to governance in the Karamoja sub-region.

With the NRM flag now in hand, Anjello sets his sights on the upcoming general election, where he will face candidates from opposition parties and independents in a contest that promises to be closely watched across the region.

The district seat remains one of the most influential positions in Karamoja, overseeing crucial programs in health, infrastructure, education, and security.
