Africa-Press – Uganda. Incumbent Kotido District Chairperson Paul Lotee Komol, popularly known as “Kacheri Boy” or “Son of the Peasant,” has retained the NRM party flag after a tightly contested race in the party primaries, edging out his only challenger, Peter Simon Lodia.
Komol, a prominent and widely respected figure in Karamoja, is best known for his strong grassroots leadership and consistent advocacy for development across the region.
He has actively followed up on government projects and lobbied for increased support from central ministries, earning him a solid reputation among constituents.
Despite these credentials, the race proved far more competitive than anticipated. In an election many had expected Komol to win with ease, early results showed a neck-and-neck contest.
Komol ultimately secured victory with 28,754 votes, while Lodia trailed closely with 25,716—a narrow margin that left supporters on edge.
The tense atmosphere was further heightened in the final hours before the official announcement, after a tally sheet showing Lodia in the lead began circulating widely on social media. The unverified document sparked confusion and premature celebrations among some Lodia supporters.
Relief finally swept through Komol’s camp when Kotido District NRM Election Officer John Paul Namuya officially declared him the winner.
Jubilant scenes unfolded across Kotido town and neighboring areas, with Komol’s supporters taking to the streets in song, dance, and a show of party pride.
In a heartfelt post-election message, Komol thanked his supporters for their trust and resilience, and praised the security forces for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
“I pledge to be a leader who is accessible, responsive, and dedicated to the welfare and development of our district,” his statement read in part.
Komol’s victory underscores his enduring influence in Karamoja politics, but also highlights the increasingly competitive nature of electoral contests in Kotido.
As he heads into the next phase of the 2026 general elections, Komol will be looking to consolidate support while navigating the shifting political dynamics on the ground.
