Govt Delivers Relief to Majansi High School after Storm

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Office of the Prime Minister has extended relief support to Majansi High School in Tororo District following a violent storm that struck on October 12, 2025, tearing off the roofs of several buildings and disrupting learning at the institution.

The storm caused widespread destruction, damaging the ICT laboratory, girls’ dormitory, administration block, library, and staff houses.

In response to a formal appeal from the school administration, the government has donated 300 iron sheets to help reroof the affected structures.

While handing over the materials, Tororo Resident District Commissioner Sadiq Mutegana highlighted the role of environmental degradation in worsening natural disasters and called for preventive action.

“Make sure that you re-afforest the school so we avoid future calamities like what happened to us,” Mutegana said, encouraging the school to plant trees that could serve as windbreakers.

Tororo District Chairperson John Okea thanked the government for the timely intervention but cautioned against mismanagement of the donated materials.

“Let the iron sheets be put to use and not kept in stores. Let’s mobilize parents to make bricks so that we put this donation to immediate use,” Okea said.

Headteacher David Sedialo, who received the donation on behalf of the school, said the storm had left them in a dire situation at a time when student enrollment is on the rise.

“Majansi High School is currently receiving an increase in the number of students, and we needed more space to accommodate them. Unfortunately, we had none due to the poor state of our structures,” Sedialo told.

In addition to the roofing materials, the government also delivered an ICT integration kit to enhance the school’s capacity to teach digital skills—an initiative welcomed by the administration.

The school community, with support from local leaders and parents, has pledged to put the relief items to immediate use as rebuilding efforts get underway.
