Africa-Press – Uganda. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Kigezi leadership and supporters have intensified demands for the immediate release of Dr Kizza Besigye during the PFF Kigezi Federal Convention held under the theme Empowering Kigezi for Inclusive Development in Kabale Municipality.
Party leaders and supporters, singing songs and carrying placards calling for Besigye’s release, marched through the streets of Kabale to officially launch regional offices in Kigongi B Cell, Kigongi Ward, Kabale Central Division.
At the same event, the Kigezi subregion Federal Assembly, responsible for party leadership in the area, was inaugurated.
Vice President of PFF Western Uganda, Dr Nicholas Kamara, described Besigye’s arrest as political persecution.
“Arresting Besigye is not legal but has just turned into a political arrest,” he said, adding that Besigye’s only “mistake” is his intention to contest against President Museveni.
PFF Secretary General Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda criticized the government for prioritizing selfish interests and tolerating corruption, which he said has widened income inequality in Uganda.
PFF National Vice President Dr Michael Lulume Bayigga urged members of his former organisation, the Democratic Party (DP) and other citizens to join the movement, saying Uganda can only be free when its people are liberated from state capture.
“The party has aspirants intending to contest in lower local government positions within the Kigezi subregion. We aim to grow our numbers ahead of the 2026 general elections,” Lulume said.
The PFF delegation is scheduled to continue its mobilization efforts tomorrow in Mityana District as it ramps up activities ahead of the 2026 polls.
