Tax Agents Urge URA to Enhance Tax Education for Growth

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda Tax Agents Association (UTAA) has called on the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to intensify tax education across the country, emphasizing that well-informed taxpayers are critical to achieving meaningful revenue growth.

Speaking during the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kampala, UTAA leaders highlighted the urgent need for wider public sensitisation to demystify the tax system and encourage voluntary compliance, especially as the country enters a politically charged season.

“Bridging the knowledge gap, advocacy, and policy engagement while promoting ethical practices are some of the key roles tax agents play in bringing taxpayers and the tax authority closer together,” the Association noted.

This year’s AGM comes at a pivotal moment, with a new leadership team taking the reins.

UTAA said the fresh leadership will provide strategic direction and renewed energy, steering the association and the broader tax sector toward greater professionalism, innovation, and impact.

“We are doing all it takes to make the relationship between the taxpayer and the URA more cooperative than confrontational,” said UTAA leadership.

“Through professional advice, consistent engagement, and guidance, tax agents are playing a key role in building a more responsible tax culture.”

Typically, political seasons in Uganda have coincided with dips in tax remittances.

However, UTAA expressed optimism this time, projecting revenue growth even as political activities gain momentum and economic uncertainty rises.

“With a clear commitment to narrowing the gap between the public and the URA, Uganda’s tax agents are stepping up not just as intermediaries, but as key drivers of national development,” the Association concluded.
