Africa-Press – Uganda. Buganda Kingdom through its Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Talent, has officially launched a new initiative aimed at guiding and mentoring young people in higher institutions of learning across the country.
The program, designed to equip students with essential life skills and values, will be rolled out in universities and colleges nationwide.
The Buganda Kingdom Minister for Youth, Sports, and Talent Development, Robert Serwanga, inaugurated the initiative during a visit to Al-Mustafa Islamic College located in Ssaabagabo Nsangi, Busiro County on Tuesday. He was received by the institution’s principal, Dr. Rouhallah Dehghani, alongside local leaders.
Minister Serwanga explained that the program, titled “Amagezi Muliro” (loosely translated as “Wisdom is Fire”), aims to empower students—particularly members of Nkobazambogo (Buganda student associations)—to successfully navigate their academic journeys and life beyond school.
“This initiative is meant to inspire and equip students to excel in their studies and become responsible citizens. The nation is looking forward to seeing them succeed, not fail or bring shame to their communities,” he said.
Serwanga further noted that the Buganda Kingdom is currently collaborating with over 104 educational institutions across Uganda that host Nkobazambogo associations. He expressed pride in Al-Mustafa Islamic College for being among these institutions and for producing notable leaders such as Hannington Kakeeto Sseremba, who now serves as the Speaker of the Buganda Youth Council.
Serwanga also urged students to uphold their cultural values and traditions while pursuing their education, stressing the importance of preserving Buganda’s heritage.
“It is well known in Buganda culture that one cannot marry from their own clan or their mother’s clan. These traditions were carefully established by our ancestors for a reason, and they must be respected,” he said.
The Principal of the College, Dr. Rouhallah Dehghani, expressed gratitude to the Buganda Kingdom for its continued support and engagement. He highlighted the importance of collaboration in shaping responsible and well-rounded citizens.
“We are honored by the Kingdom’s commitment to education and youth development. We look forward to strengthening this partnership for the benefit of our students and the nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, the College’s Administrator, Uthuman Ssemakula, commended the Kabaka for promoting education through the Kabaka Education Fund. He pledged the institution’s support in advancing the initiative and called upon the public to actively participate in supporting educational programs under the Kingdom.
The Minister was accompanied by the Kingdom’s Youth Coordinator, Hassan Kiyemba, local Buganda leaders from Ssaabagabo Nsangi, and other youth representatives.
