Africa-Press – Uganda. Leaders in Bunyoro region have been courted to embrace the economic development approach dubbed Musevenomics derived from President Museveni’s development agenda that spans for 40 years of his leadership of the country.
The call was made by the state minister for public service, Mary Mugasa while speaking at the launching of the Musevenomics drive at Hoima Youth Center, Hoima City.
Mugasa noted that local leaders should drop the negative mindset and focus on transforming the people by helping trickle down the Musevenomics development agenda.
‘‘We need a mindset change among our leaders in order to cascade this program to the local people. Leaders should stop being selfish and think about politics as a job instead of taking it a service’’ said Mugasa who was the chief guest.
Fred K Muhumuza, the Director for Economic Forum said that the aim of Musevenomics ideology is to energize the rural communities to consolidate the current achievements and devise means for faster transformation in social-economic status in every parish.
He said that whereas the government has worked on strategic infrastructure developments in the country, there is a need to continue empowering local people to be part of the economy by engaging them in production.
Ronnie Kasaija from National Planning Authority said that Musevenomics economic approach is anchored on pillars that are going to achieve the 10-fold development vision.
These will include Agriculture production, Tourism, Minerals including oil and gas production and science and technology (ATMS).
He said the 10-fold agenda is aimed at growing Uganda’s economy to 500 Million US dollars and this according to Kasaija will be cemented by value addition to agriculture production, minerals and human capital development.
Dr. Charles Kajura, the Hoima District Production Officer who is also the regional focal person for parish development model-PDM said the Musevenomics concept will be transmitted to lower local levels including the parish and village level.
He said more engagements will be held in order to ensure that the concept bears fruits.
The launching of Musevenomics was graced by leaders and technocrats from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and economic development, Uganda Bureau of Statistics,Hoima district and Hoima city. It was also graced by the business community and other stakeholders.
