Africa-Press – Uganda. Season 4 of the prestigious St Kaggwa League concluded on a high note on Saturday night at Timeout Leisure Park in Mbalwa.

In a thrilling grand finale full of action and entertainment that captivated fans and guests, Chwezi FC, representing the alumni class of 2007-2012, were crowned champions of 2024.

The team’s hard-fought victory marks the culmination of months of intense competition, culminating in a well-deserved celebration for the determined players who came together with a shared goal and a deep connection to their alma mater.

Chwezi finished the season on a high note, amassing 60 points over 24 matches, finishing 17 points ahead of the second-place team, Majojo FC.

The St. Kaggwa League, celebrated for its dynamic mix of talent and intense rivalries, witnessed Chwezi excel, demonstrating remarkable teamwork, skill, and strategic acumen throughout the season.

Key contributors to the team, such as tournament top scorer Arafat Ngembya and the strong defensive duo of Louis Kamugisha and Darius Sabawa, were instrumental in keeping Chwezi FC unbeaten.

Other notable players, including the dynamic winger Oni Bashir and the league’s most creative player Jotham Danko, also made significant contributions to the team’s success.

From the onset, Chwezi FC appeared ready to make a mark.

The squad, made up of former students from the 2007-2012 class, combined youthful energy with valuable experience, and players who returned to the field after several years away.

Their on-field chemistry was evident, as seasoned players like Brighton Amumpaire, Samuel Muhimba, and Odomaro Natwijuka teamed up with emerging talents like Seif Abiola and Kevin to make an impact in every match.

Chwezi FC’s head coach, Javira Atusimiire, who is also the chief executive of Virat Engineering Ltd, credited the team’s achievements to the discipline and dedication of his players.

“I want to recognize the Chwezi players for their outstanding discipline and hard work, both on and off the field. This season has been incredibly challenging and competitive, but the boys’ commitment every single day has led us to victory,” Atusimiire stated.

Chwezi’s victory reignites a sense of pride and unity among their alumni and the current students of St. Kaggwa.

Majojo FC Claims Victory in Fr. Mukama Memorial Tournament

Meanwhile, the grand finale also showcased the Fr. Evarist Mukama Inaugural Memorial Tournament, held in honour of the school’s former chaplain.

Fr. Mukama passed away in 2018. His commitment to sports, faith, and discipline greatly influenced the St. Kaggwa High School community. This tournament was designed to celebrate his legacy.

In an exciting final match, Majojo FC, the league season’s runners-up, narrowly defeated the newly introduced Ekyokya FC to win the tournament.

The evening also saw a number of individuals awarded and recognised for their outstanding performances throughout the eight-month season.

Among the awards presented were the Best Fan of the Season, which was awarded to Desire Arimpa from Divas CF. Chwezi players Nicholas Nuwasiima and Jotham Danko received the Best Goalkeeper and Most Assists awards, respectively.

Atusimiire Javira from Chwezi was honored with the Best Coach Award, while Ekyokya took home the Fairplay Award.

The chief guest, AIGP Felix Baryamwisaki, a former student of St. Kaggwa from 1993 to 1996, congratulated the winning teams.

The Director of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) for the Uganda Police Force further noted that the league not only fosters social interaction among former students of the school but also offers health benefits.

“I have seen very young and talented boys and I believe it is a way of promoting physical fitness. You have seen diseases like diabetes, blood pressure killing people. So, apart from socializing, there’s that gain of physical fitness. I encourage you to keep up. Next Season, I will be attending regularly as a morale booster,” Baryamwisaki said.

He also praised Divas CF, the girls’ team representing Kyeizooba Girls Secondary School, for reinforcing the longstanding relationship with St Kaggwa that has existed for many decades.

In his speech, Kaggwa League president Anoch Kambendyaho extended his congratulations to the league champions, Chwezi, and the runners-up, Majojo FC, for their exceptional performances.

Kambendyaho, also the proprietor of Adritex Uganda, praised all the teams that participated as well as the stakeholders for contributing to a successful season.

“I want to express my gratitude to all the teams, our sponsors, and everyone who supported us throughout Season 4. Your dedication has made this season perhaps the best we’ve ever experienced. Together with our stakeholders, we are committed to enhancing the league. We are fortunate to have one of the finest alumni leagues in the country, and we will continue to grow,” he stated.

Once the awards ceremony concluded, the festivities began with the Queen of the West, Omega 256, igniting the celebration.

Her performances of songs such as “Omuzeire,” “Ndeka,” and “This Year” captivated the audience, leaving everyone eager for more.

The party continued into the early hours, with DJ performances keeping the energy alive.
