Africa-Press – Uganda. Glovo, a global technology platform connecting customers, businesses, and riders, has announced plans to double its operations in Uganda over the next two years, building on five years of strong growth in the country.

Since launching in Uganda in 2020, Glovo has invested shs33 billion, creating around 6,000 jobs across its direct workforce and partner network, which includes more than 3,000 shops and restaurants, 95% of them local small and medium-sized enterprises.

The platform has also generated over shs 143 billion in direct economic value for its partners, demonstrating the potential of digital commerce to drive business growth and income generation.

To mark its fifth anniversary in Uganda, Glovo inaugurated a new office in Kampala at 1st Floor, AHA Towers, 7 Lourdel Road. The office will serve as a central hub for partner support, rider engagement, and recruitment.

“Uganda has been a remarkable growth story for Glovo. Our next chapter focuses on scaling operations, providing digital tools for partners, and expanding our adoption of electric vehicles to make deliveries greener,” said Ivy Maingi, Country Manager, Glovo Uganda.

Glovo’s commitment to sustainability is evident, with 37% of all deliveries in 2024 made using electric or non-combustion vehicles—the highest share in its global network. Currently, 39% of riders in Uganda use electric vehicles, with plans to increase this to 70% through partnerships offering subsidies on electric motorbikes.

Dr. Cosmas Mwikirize, Superintendent Industrial Value Chains Development at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, praised Glovo’s contribution to Uganda’s digital economy.

“Glovo’s operations show how the platform economy can drive innovation, create jobs, and support our transition to greener transport solutions. We look forward to more Ugandans benefiting from these digital opportunities.”

Glovo currently operates in Kampala, Mukono, and Entebbe, partnering with 900 stores and engaging 1,000 riders. As it doubles its footprint, the company aims to deepen its impact on digital inclusion, local economic growth, and the cashless economy.
