IGG Raises Concerns over District Service Commissions

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala has expressed concern over the operations of district service commissions across the country, citing an increase in corruption-related complaints.

The IGG made the remarks during the launch of her nationwide tour, which began in the Kigezi sub-region following her recent appointment.

While in Kabale, she met technical and political leaders from Kabale District and Kabale Municipality before inspecting several government projects.

Lady Justice Naluzze said her office has registered a growing number of complaints involving district service commissions, particularly cases of forged academic documents and bribery in the recruitment process.

“Since I assumed office, we have received many complaints relating to district service commissions, especially involving forgery of academic documents and the payment of bribes to secure jobs,” Batala said.

Justice Naluzze urged citizens to take an active role in the fight against corruption, emphasising that addressing the vice requires collective responsibility.

“I want to urge all citizens to actively participate in combating corruption. The fight against this vice requires collective responsibility,” she added.

Kabale District Chairperson Nelson Nshangabaijasha underscored the need for continuous collaboration between the IGG’s office and district service commissions to address the challenges affecting public service recruitment.

Meanwhile, Robert Kakuru, an executive director, raised concerns about difficulties in accessing information from the IGG’s office.

He also noted that many whistleblowers are often reluctant to testify due to fear of reprisals.

The IGG is expected to travel to Mbarara on Tuesday as she continues her regional inspection tour across the country.
