Africa-Press – Uganda. Makerere University has reminded students to report cases of harassment, abuse, bullying, exploitation, and discrimination as the new semester begins, stressing that student safety and wellbeing remain a top priority.
In a safeguarding notice dated February 10, 2026, the Office of the Dean of Students said the university is committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for all members of its community.
The university urged students who feel unsafe or witness misconduct to report through the MakSafeSpace online platform, the Office of the Dean of Students, Safeguarding Champions, or any other university office.
“Your safety, dignity, and wellbeing remain a top priority,” the statement said, adding that safeguarding is a shared responsibility across the university community.
The Dean of Students emphasized that speaking up, whether for oneself or others, helps protect the wider university community and contributes to a safer campus.
The notice comes as students resume studies for the new semester, a period the university says requires heightened awareness and mutual respect among students and staff.
Makerere University called on students to respect personal boundaries and to look out for one another, reiterating its commitment to addressing misconduct promptly and appropriately.
