Munyagwa Criticizes Government Neglect in Tooro

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Common Man’s Party (CMP) presidential candidate, Mubarak Munyagwa, has criticized the government for what he described as the neglect of Fort Portal City and key educational institutions, urging the people of Tooro to reconsider their voting patterns and support opposition leadership in the forthcoming elections.

During his campaign tour in Fort Portal City, Munyagwa questioned the rationale behind granting the area city status without providing adequate funding to support infrastructure development and urban beautification.

“Fort Portal was given city status, but the funding that should accompany it was never provided. You cannot call this a city when the government has failed to facilitate it to meet expected standards,” Munyagwa said.

The CMP flag bearer accused the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of failing to prioritize cities, arguing that Fort Portal’s current state reflects broader challenges facing urban centers across Uganda.

Munyagwa began his day by visiting his former schools, St. Leo’s College Kyegobe and Nyakasura School, institutions he described as among the oldest and best-performing schools in Tooro, now facing gradual decline.

“These schools produced leaders and professionals for this country, but today they are deteriorating because the government has abandoned public education,” he said.

From the schools, Munyagwa proceeded to Kisenyi, in the heart of Fort Portal City, where he reiterated his disappointment with the city’s condition. He argued that city status should translate into improved services, infrastructure, and livelihoods for residents.

“Giving a place city status should improve people’s lives. Unfortunately, that has not happened here because the government does not fund cities adequately,” he noted.

Munyagwa called on residents of the Tooro sub-region to reconsider their continued support for the NRM, claiming that the party has become an obstacle to political transition.

“The people of Tooro must change their ways. Continuing to vote for NRM is blocking change in this country. If you want a new Uganda, you must vote differently,” he said.

He also referenced the prolonged trial of opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, claiming that a vote for the opposition would end what he described as politically motivated persecution.

“If the people of Fort Portal and Uganda vote for the opposition, the long trial of Dr. Kizza Besigye will end, and he will be released immediately,” Munyagwa asserted.

The CMP presidential candidate later continued his campaign to Bunyangabu District, engaging supporters on his party’s agenda for governance and economic reform as part of his wider tour of the Tooro region.
