My take on the current impasse between Hon Kyinyamatama vs Hon Zaake. Kyinyamatama is fondly known as “Esuubi Lya Rakai” by her constituents. Literally translated as ‘the hope of Rakai.’
The Hon Zaake was ill advised to attack her of all people and in her own consitituency at that. Serving in her 8th year in Parliament, Juliet is no novice, she knows well the workings of the parliamentary corridors.
Her brand of politics is well known in the House (Parliament), she will only rise to talk on the floor when it is necessary and if you are to pick a fight with her, make sure you can take it on till the end.
In the recent days, Hon Zaake has been seen tasking the government to uphold the human rights of his people which one would say is commendable.
However, on a closer look, given his blatant abuse of his colleagues’ human rights, we must ascertain if his motives are genuine or they are just political ‘gymnastics.’ How can you fight for the human rights of some people while abusing the human rights of others? Isn’t this the very thing that the Hon Zaake is accusing the government of?
Hon Zaake and his colleagues seem to stand for a brand of politics that upholds the rights of only a section of Ugandans. The very thing for which they accuse govt. This is no better alternative and Ugandans deserve better.
My personal take is that a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. Juliet is a formidable woman with her people at heart. She fights for the well being of her people. It’s certainly not her mandate to construct roads, hospitals and dams but she has done her fair share to lobby government and scrutniy of her district administrators to ensure they utilise the little resources received from govt.
Indeed on many occasions Juliet has used her own resources to come to the aid of her people.
When a meeting has a disruptive individual, it loses direction and spends more time on trivialities.
Ugandans would like Parliament to focus on the serious issues affecting us but how can this happen when Hon Zaake and his colleagues constantly choose to disrupt it?
Hon Zaake was looking for a soft target, he landed on a hard rock. Good luck!
