NCBA Golf Series Concludes Final Leg at Entebbe Golf Club

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Entebbe Golf Club played host to the grand finale of the NCBA Golf Series, bringing together top golfers from across Uganda for the last qualifying round ahead of the regional grand finale.

Irene Sekabembe emerged victorious at the Entebbe leg, joining James Abiria, the Jinja leg champion, and Gabriel Amani Beau, winner at the Uganda Golf Club, to represent Uganda at the Muthaiga Grand Finale in Nairobi, Kenya.

The regional showdown will see the trio compete against East Africa’s finest junior golfers for the coveted amateur title.

Despite intermittent rain, standout performances came from John Basabose and Martha Babirye.

Basabose, playing off a handicap of 4, carded an impressive 73 gross to claim the Overall Men’s Gross title on the challenging par-71 lakeside course.

Babirye matched his score to secure the Ladies’ Gross title along with the Longest Drive award.

“It’s good to be back in the winning circle once again,” Babirye said as she received her trophy and golf bag.

Now in its third season, the NCBA Golf Series has established itself as a premier platform for nurturing young golfing talent.

Each leg tests players’ technical precision, strategy, and mental resilience, while also showcasing the growing popularity of golf in Uganda.

Participants at Entebbe impressed spectators with consistency and focus, earning widespread praise.

Mark Muyobo, NCBA’s chief executive, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting golf development across the region.

“Our mission is to nurture talent, provide meaningful exposure, and create clear pathways for Ugandan golfers to excel both regionally and beyond,” he said.

The upcoming Muthaiga finale in Nairobi will crown the overall NCBA Golf Series champion, setting a benchmark for East African amateur golf.

With events held across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, the series has become one of the region’s top amateur tournaments, encouraging healthy competition while fostering professional networks among emerging golfers.

Demonstrating a commitment to innovation, NCBA integrated its Muzuri Pay digital platform throughout the tournament, streamlining player registration, refreshments, and merchandise sales for a seamless experience for participants and spectators.

Uganda made history last year by sending a record 18 golfers to the Nairobi finale, its largest contingent ever.

Standout qualifiers including Aggrey Mutaka, Judith Mugisha, Brian Omeda, Lillian Koowe, Anselm Olweny, and Berna Musanabera earned their spots through exceptional performances, reflecting the growing depth of golfing talent in the country.

Since its launch in 2021, the NCBA Golf Series has been recognized for its inclusive and sustainable approach, expanding opportunities for emerging golfers.

By investing in player development and promoting regional competition, the tournament continues to shape the future of golf in Uganda and East Africa, raising standards of excellence and fostering a vibrant, connected golfing community.
