Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has created excitement when he assured locals in Nebbi that the 16-kilometre Nebbi to Goli road will soon be worked upon.
Museveni who was campaigning in Nebbi on Saturday used the analogy of slaughtering a cow, explaining that having tarmacked the Karuma to Koboko road which is almost 300km, the 16kilomtre road should be a walkover.
“When slaughtering cow, you first open the skin. The road we made from Karuma to Koboko was skinning. Taking feeder roads to Goli and Vurra is like cutting the internal parts of the cow (it comes last). It(Nebbi to Goli road) will be done since, after all, from here to Goli is only 16km. How can we do 300km and fail to do 16km,” Museveni who was speaking at Namrwodho Primary School Playground in Nebbi Municipality said on Saturday.
He added, “The mistake of some of our implementers is that they dont even maintain the murram even if it is not yet tarmacked. Even the one of Parombo should be maintained even as we wait for tarmac. This should be the case with the one of Wadelayi. We are going to solve those internal problems but the idea is clear that we first do the big ones and add the linkages.”
Museveni, who was speaking in English but would occasionally drop in words in the local dialect told the crowd that when the NRM came to power, it identified the problem of ideology and to this, it discouraged sectarianism basing on religion or tribes.
To this, he said, his government was able to build a strong army and institutions, the former, he said has led to peace enjoyed by the country, giving West Nile as an example of areas which have benefitted from the peace.
According to Museveni, because of peace, the country has developed, mentioning several roads, electricity, schools and health facilities among others that he said are enjoyed by Ugandans.
Despite all these, Museveni said there is still one problem- poverty- which he said can be solved by wealth creation.
He said many leaders spend a lot of time talking about development in terms of roads but fail to speak about wealth creation.
“That’s why we have brought programs like PDM where people can get money from government invest and create wealth. We have in our teachings since the 1960s differentiated between development and wealth. Development like roads and schools is ours but wealth is for you as an individual, family or company.”
Museveni said Ugandans can easily create wealth by starting small and growing big.
“When I was coming here I was seeing you are growing maize in small patches and cassava for food but. I want to remind you of our manifesto of 1996 of the four-acre model. Involve yourselves in producing for both commercial and consumption purposes,” he said.
He said he no longer wants to see a country of a few wealth creators and a few spectators, noting that every Ugandans must participate in wealth creation.
The First Lady, Janet Museveni added her voice, asking Ugandans to ensure they protect the gains by voting President Museveni and the NRM at large in the forthcoming election.

“With the completion of the four Seed Secondary Schools under construction, the Sub-Counties without a government school will reduce to 4 from 8.”
Commenting about the president’s address, Padyere County aspirant, Denis Oryema Olyeko hailed Museveni for touching the most critical issues.
“We are very grateful to the president for listening to our cries and promised to work on the Nebbi-Goli road. My suggestion would be that Dott Services is contracted to do the road since they are already working on the roads in Eastern DRC and it will be easy to just connect,” Olyeko said.
“We were not going vote him but now that he has addressed the critical issues like the Nebbi-Goli road, he has everyone’s vote in Nebbi. I ask my people to vote for President Museveni.”
