Africa-Press – Uganda. Tension rose when voters began accusing their counterparts from Kassambya Constituency of trying to grab all district-level positions.
This followed the participation of individuals such as Usein Ssekamate from Kassambya and Twaha Mukomazi from Buwekula South, who were contesting for the position of NRM spokesperson for Mubende.
Top NRM leaders, including Mubende Municipality NRM Chairperson Joshua Ssekate and East Division Chairperson Jozana Lubega, led a protest against the alleged attempt by Kassambya to dominate all district positions, causing further unrest among voters.
Police intervened as voters exchanged harsh words and traded accusations of incompetence.
The situation forced the NRM District Registrar, Amos Atuliinda, to halt the voting process, which further agitated the crowd.
“We are not going to conduct the voting at the moment,” said Atuliinda.
Mubende RDC, Al Hajji Umar Lule Mawiya, ordered security agencies to evacuate all voters from the premises.
The RDC also directed a recount of voters, instructing officials to read out the names first to ensure only verified voters were allowed to participate.
“Officers, make sure no one is in this place. Let everyone gather together for a recount,” said Mawiya.
Before the halt, voters had already elected the NRM Chairperson and Vice Chairperson. Thomas Ayinebyona was unopposed, while Patrick Abaho was elected as Vice Chairperson of the NRM District.
