Africa-Press – Uganda. The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, Nyombi Thembo, has urged researchers to focus on producing practical, solution-driven studies that address Uganda’s most pressing development challenges.
Thembo made the remarks during the launch of the 10th National Conference on Communications (NCC 2026), scheduled to take place from June 24 to 26 at Makerere University.
Held under the theme “Accelerating Market-Driven Innovation for Uganda’s Development,” the conference seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world application, particularly in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.
Thembo emphasised the importance of peer-reviewed research that keeps pace with rapidly evolving technological trends while remaining grounded in the country’s socio-economic needs.
He said research should not only contribute to knowledge but also offer tangible solutions that can drive national development.
Rebecca Mayanja, Head of Research and Development at the Uganda Communications Commission, said the commission remains committed to fostering an enabling environment for innovators and researchers.
She noted that initiatives like the conference are critical in supporting collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers.
The National Conference on Communications 2026 is expected to bring together researchers, innovators, policymakers, and industry players to explore strategies for strengthening Uganda’s innovation ecosystem and enhancing the impact of ICT-driven solutions.
