PFF Challenges EC over Voters' Register Timing

Africa-Press – Uganda. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of colluding with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party to create confusion among voters ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Addressing a press conference at the PFF’s Katonga offices this morning, PFF promoter Salaam Musumba expressed concern over the EC’s decision to display the national voters’ register at a time that coincides with the NRM party primaries.

Musumba argued that the timing is deliberate and intended to mislead the public into associating all electoral activities with the ruling party’s preparations for 2026.

“This is not the first time the Electoral Commission has chosen to release the voter registers when the NRM is holding its primaries,” Musumba said.

“All these actions are intended to confuse and disorganise the electoral process for the 2026 elections.”

Musumba further issued an ultimatum to the EC, demanding that they register the People’s Front for Freedom as a fully-fledged political party by next Monday.

Turning her attention to regional issues, Musumba criticized East African governments for their continued crackdowns on opposition figures, arguing that such actions demonstrate a worrying decline in democratic values across the region.

She also called on Uganda’s Parliament to urgently address ongoing cases of enforced disappearances and security-related abductions, including the recent arrest of opposition activist Eddie Mutwe.

In response, the Electoral Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi says that the commission does not determine what political parties should be doing at this moment, but is instead focusing on implementing the activities outlined in its published roadmap.
