Postbank'S Wendi Partners with Rotary for this Year'S Cancer Run

Africa-Press – Uganda. Wendi, a digital mobile wallet developed by PostBank Ugandahas joined hands with the Rotary Club of Muyenga Tank Hill and Rotary Club of Acacia Sunset to support the 14th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run.

This year’s run is dedicated to raising funds for the construction of specialized underground bunkers that will house state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator (LINAC) radiotherapy machines, critical for delivering advanced cancer treatment in Uganda.

Uganda continues to grapple with a growing cancer burden. According to the GLOBOCAN 2022 report by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the country registers nearly 35,000 new cases annually, with more than 22,000 deaths—most linked to late detection and inadequate treatment facilities.

Speaking about the partnership, PostBank’s Acting Chief Information Security Officer, Rtn. Steven Mwesige, praised Rotary’s commitment to tackling the cancer crisis.

“Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally, and we acknowledge the critical role Rotary is playing in Uganda.

Health is a key pillar in PostBank’s Corporate Social Investment agenda, and initiatives like the Cancer Run directly improve lives and contribute to national development,” Mwesige said.

He noted that Wendi had procured over 200 kits for staff to participate in the charity run, calling on Ugandans to turn up in large numbers.

Kenneth Rubango, president of the Rotary Club of Muyenga Tank Hill, welcomed Wendi’s support.

“We appreciate Wendi for standing with us in the fight against cancer. Their contribution reflects genuine concern for the well-being of Ugandans, and together, we can save lives and give hope to families,” Rubango said.

The Rotary Cancer Run is one of Uganda’s largest charity events. Proceeds have previously funded the construction and equipping of the Rotary Cancer Ward at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya. This year’s proceeds will go towards expanding Uganda’s capacity for radiotherapy treatment.

The 2025 edition takes place this Sunday, August 31.
