Africa-Press – Uganda. The joint security forces fighting the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a terrorist organisation operating in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, have arrested a man suspected of being a spy for the deadly terror group.
Farouk Matsiko, a 27-year-old suspected ADF member, was arrested in Kafunda cell, Ibanda Municipality, where he was allegedly staying before moving to Nyanga cell, Mahyoro sub county in Katagwenda district, for casual work.
Security said that it is here in Kitagwenda where the community suspected him of being a wrong person and alerted the police.
He was arrested, but according to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, he admitted to belonging to the deadly terror group but also confessed to being kidnapped in 2015 by ADF at River Nyamwamba in Kasese district and taken to Kilembe highlands of Mt. Rwenzori where they crossed into the DRC, and trained as an Intelligence Officer.
“The suspect is familiar with the areas of Bundibugyo, Bwera, Luwero, and Najjanankumbi, and claims to have escaped from the Califonia ADF Camp and returned to his home village in the Ibanda district’s Kafunda cell,” Enanga said
Separately, the territorial police in CPS Kampala have arrested Ransur Komaketch alias Kadogo, an 18-year-old ADF remnant who was found with live ammunition in the city.
He also admitted to being recruited into the ADF when he was 7 years old, escaping from the ADF camp in Congo, and returning to Uganda.
President Museveni recently stated that as a result of heavy bombardment of ADF bases in Eastern DRC during the ongoing operation Shujaa, some remnants will flee into Uganda, posing a security threat.
“As Joint Security Agencies, we continue to actively monitor all spaces for ADF elements and remnants who are hiding, because they continue to pose a threat to Ugandans and visitors to the country.” Security said
