Ssemujju Criticizes Tinkasimire Ssekikubo for NRM Ties

Africa-Press – Uganda. Kira Municipality MP and People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, has lashed out at fellow legislators Barnabas Tinkasimire and Theodore Ssekikubo for their continued association with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), despite repeated allegations of mistreatment by the party.

Speaking during NBS Frontline on Thursday, Ssemujju questioned the logic behind their loyalty to a party he accused of violating its own members’ rights.

“I don’t understand why Tinkasimire and Ssekikubo continue tying themselves to the NRM,” he said.

“They get mistreated, and after one week they are back to calling themselves NRM. How can you continue being part of a party that brings pungers to cut your vehicle, and plots to kidnap you?”

His remarks were in response to Buyaga West MP Barnabas Tinkasimire’s earlier reflections on the July 17 NRM primaries, which he described as “not even 20% free and fair.”

The primaries have faced widespread criticism for their chaotic nature, with over 380 petitions filed, prompting a protracted review process by the NRM Election Disputes Tribunal.

Ssemujju didn’t stop at questioning political affiliations. He expressed concern for Tinkasimire’s personal safety, referencing the political violence many candidates face during internal party processes.

“Tinkasimire should thank God that he wasn’t brutalised. He is lucky he is the one taking care of other people, and not the other way around,” Ssemujju said.

He called for the establishment of national electoral standards that apply to all political parties, warning that without them, democracy in Uganda will continue to suffer.

“We should have National standards and make sure all parties play to those standards,” he added.
