Wazalendo SACCO New Board Takes Office Amid Governance Caution

Africa-Press – Uganda. The newly elected leadership of Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society has officially assumed office, amid calls for enhanced governance and tighter risk management frameworks.

The handover ceremony was held at the SACCO headquarters in Kiwatule, following elections conducted during the 20th Annual General Meeting in Jinja on March 31.

Board Chairman Sam Kavuma commended the outgoing leadership for their service and urged them to remain ambassadors of the institution.

“You have left office, but you have not left Wazalendo. You remain the right people to market the SACCO,” he said.

Kavuma also called on the new Board to work closely with management to ensure efficient service delivery, noting that collaboration has been central to the SACCO’s growth over the years.

However, he warned that continued expansion presents new risks, cautioning that weak governance structures and poor internal controls could undermine operations and threaten members’ savings.

Supervisory Board Chairperson Justus Rukundo said the new leadership will prioritise safeguarding members’ interests while building on the progress made by their predecessors.

Outgoing Board representative Allan Kitanda urged the incoming team to put institutional interests above personal considerations in order to sustain the SACCO’s growth trajectory.

Speaking on behalf of the new Board, Vice Chairperson Peter Omola pledged to uphold integrity and strengthen the SACCO’s operations, citing his long-standing association with the institution.

The new Board comprises representatives from various regions, supported by a Supervisory Board responsible for oversight and accountability.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Chief Executive Officer Yusuf Magero Buha, marking the beginning of a new leadership term focused on growth, stability, and improved member service.
