Africa-Pressuganda. COVID-19 | The Central Police Station CPS) in Kampala has been opened again to the public after two days of closure due to COVID-19.Sources revealed that over 20 staff at the station have so far tested positive for COVID-19, causing serious concerns to the police authorities. There is fear that the number might keep rising if nothing is done to improve the enforcement of the healthy guidelines. The station was closed on Saturday and Sunday to allow health workers to fumigate the offices and cells, and services officially resumed on Tuesday.Several people who had no information about the developments were bounced on the two days. On Monday the business was still low.Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Patrick Onyango said that the station was back in operations and were fully attending to people with various follow-ups of their cases and new complaints.”The offices are now open. If you have anything that you want to do at CPS, feel free to come and transact the business you want, like registration of new cases or follow up on your case,” Onyango stated, adding that after the days of closure, the station was safe for visitors.According to Onyango, people were also free to visit suspects.Onyango, however, warned that no one will be allowed to access the station without a mask and observing other Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including social distancing and washing of hands with soap.Onyango said they worked in collaboration with the Uganda Red Cross Society volunteers who provided chemicals that were used in the fumigation of the station. He said the organization had also offered to supply chemicals for cleaning the police cells to ensure the suspects remain safe.”Our cells are now safer and our suspects are more secure than people on the streets of Kampala,” he added.Although Onyango did not want to disclose details of the staff on either treatment or self-isolation, he said they were all doing well.”They are doing well but the information (about them) is a privilege of our director of health services,” he said.
