Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. South Africa coach Hugo Broos says he is confident Bafana Bafana will beat Zimbabwe when the two sides meet at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on 29 December.

South Africa were left frustrated by refereeing decisions in their 1–0 defeat to Egypt on Friday, a result that has put their place in the knockout stages at risk.

The only goal of the match came from a Mohamed Salah penalty, awarded after Burundian referee Pacifique Ndabihawenimana reviewed the incident following a VAR check.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Broos said his team knows exactly what is required in their final group game, especially after Zimbabwe and Angola played out a 1–1 draw earlier in the day.

South Africa’s qualification is still in their own hands ahead of Monday’s clash with Zimbabwe in Marrakesh, where a win would secure a place in the last 16. Said Broos:

“We know that we have to win against Zimbabwe to be sure of qualification, and we are going to win.

“We are super motivated, and on Monday we will be ready to go again and try to beat Zimbabwe…

“We know we have the quality to beat Zimbabwe, but they have one point, and they are probably thinking the same.

“Matches between us and Zimbabwe are always difficult, but we are confident.

“We will be ready on Monday, I can assure you of that. If we win that gam,e we are in the second round, and we will see what happens from there.”
