Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. AFRO-FUSION musician Munya Nyamarebvu wowed revellers at Highbury Lounge Hotel and Conference Centre in Kadoma on Africa Day.
As the show was about to end, fans begged him to continue.
Speaking after the show, Nyamarebvu said he was surprised to see fans singing along.
“I was surprised to see the fans sing along. It gave me energy to do better,” he said.
“The response from the crowd was awesome and I promise them classy acts.
“It’s Africa Day and the playlist had love and ubuntu songs.”
The acoustic guitar player said his music was pan-African, adding that he sang about love, culture and oneness.
“I performed Rangarira, Zvikoni Zvikoni, Mama Africa and Ndiri Ndoga, among many other tunes from my first and second albums,” he said.
“I also sampled my new song (not yet released) called Pfimbi Dzemoyo, a song which talks about the challenges orphans face when family members (father figures) desert their crucial role of sarapavana.”
Orphans often struggle to take care of themselves when such things happen.
“Child-headed families tend to face struggles that nobody can imagine, especially if they are poor. Pfimbi Dzemoyo is a plea to father figures (sarapavana) to take responsibility.
Nyamarebvu’s performance was matched by his stage presence, donning an African attire designed by award-winner and top designer Ashava.
Show promoter Valentine Billy Ruzayi was ecstatic about the performance and the fans’ reception saying it’s going to be a weekly jazz affair at his place.
“I would love to express my gratitude for Munya’s performance at Highbury. Despite the new awakening amapiano melodies, artistes like Munya have managed to bring jazz culture on rocks,” said Ruzayi.
“With Trevor D, Gary Tight, Nasibo, Macro and Mwendamberi scheduled to perform at the venue, fans should expect nothing, but happiness.”
Nyamarebvu, who also plays mbira besides the guitar, has toured countries such as Germany and the United States.
