Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have denied reports that officers were involved in the death of a kombi driver whose vehicle crashed in Harare on Friday, 3 October.
Pictures of the damaged kombi were circulating on social media, with some claiming the driver had crashed while trying to escape a police motorbike.
But on Saturday, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said these claims were false and urged people not to use social media to spread misinformation. Said Comm. Nyathi:
“The ZRP sets the record straight on a fatal road traffic accident involving an Isuzu D-Max vehicle and Toyota Hiace kombi, where the kombi driver sadly died after the two vehicles’ collision along Tongogara Avenue near the intersection of Blakiston Street, Harare on 03/10/2025.
“For the record, no speed chase or clashes occurred between the kombi crew and the ZRP members who were driving a Police motorcycle.
“The ZRP Command has viewed the video footage of the scene and the camcorder for the deployed team; no such incident occurred.
“The ZRP warns Zimbabweans against using social media to spread false information or narratives.”
