Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A 27-year-old man, Talent Moyo, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of a string of sexual assaults targeting elderly women in the Makhulela and Dupute areas under the Madlambuzi Madlambuzi policing area, Matabeleland South Province.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest in a press statement released on Sunday, 08 June, commending the local community for its vigilance and cooperation.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that the suspect had instilled fear and trauma in the rural community, with residents living in anxiety as he carried out his attacks. He said:
The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the public in Makhulela, Dupute under Madlambuzi policing area for cooperation and collaboration with the Police which led to the recent arrest of a serial rapist, Talent Moyo (27).
The accused had caused trauma and panic in the community through his heinous acts of sexual abuse on the elderly women in the village.
The accused, Talent Moyo, was recently convicted by the courts and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment.
The ZRP reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and encouraged continued cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.
