Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A 29-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Mzilikazi suburb has appeared in court facing assault charges after allegedly attacking his landlord with a knobkerrie.

Philelinkosi Gwebu appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Steve Ramaboena, who remanded him in custody until 10 July. Gwebu pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira, the incident occurred at around 9 PM on 1 July.

The accused assaulted his 76-year-old landlord, Dambisa Mafu, after the latter asked for rent payment, as the month had ended.

The court heard that Gwebu struck Mafu repeatedly with a knobkerrie, inflicting injuries to his left leg and right hand.

A police report was filed, resulting in Gwebu’s arrest.
