UNITA considers it necessary to eliminate the fuel subsidy

Africa-Press – Angola. The president of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, considered, this Saturday, in Luanda, the elimination of the subsidy in the price of gasoline as a necessary measure, despite sinning in the choice of its implementation.

“We publicly state that eliminating the fuel subsidy is a necessary measure, but that it lacks the timing and complementary measures for its implementation”, stressed the UNITA leader during his intervention at the 6th ordinary meeting of the party.

However, the politician added that the Government has not yet presented a justification that justifies the absence of economic pursuit of the country’s productive structure, which is why it is not possible to characterize the policies adopted for the promotion of industrial production associated with the oil and gas chain. .

The UNITA leader adds that, despite this, the government has interfered in the definition of prices for goods and services, in sectors of the economy such as road transport and energy, as they are key components of spatial mobility by the population, without, however, conveniently using the mechanisms to promote transparency and access to information, essential for the consolidation of the democratic regime and for the definition of public policies that serve the well-being of the populations.

The Government announced, last week, the adjustment of the price of gasoline, which increased from 160 to 300 kwanzas per litre.

The new table, which does not cover taxis, motorcycle taxis and artisanal fishing vessels, came into force on Friday, June 2nd, after being announced by the Executive.

With the withdrawal of the gradual subsidy on the price of gasoline, the State saves 400 billion kwanzas, with a weight of 40 percent in fuel subsidies.

The Government refers that the attribution of subsidies to fuel prices is an economic and social measure, resulting from a combination of fiscal policy and income and price policy, supported by Presidential Decree n.o 206/11, of 29 July , which approves the General Bases for the Organization of the National Price System and by Presidential Decree No. 283/20, of 27 October.

Data collected show that, in 2022, the State assumed a total subsidy of Kz 1.98 billion, with diesel being the fuel that represents the greatest weight of this expenditure, with Kz 1.35 billion (68.1% of the total). Gasoline has a value of Kz 458.78 billion (23.2% of the total). P
