Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes, held, Tuesday, in Luanda, a meeting with the Japan ambassador to Angola, Hiroaki Sano, aiming the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two entities addressed issues related to the intensification of high -level visits exchanges, within the context of the 9th edition of the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD 9), to take place in 2026.

At the time, the beginning of the preparatory actions for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Angola and Japan, to be commemorated in 2026.

The Tokyo International Conference on Africa’s development is a high-level multilateral platform, launched in 1993 by the Government of Japan, with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of the African continent, based on the principles of cooperation, co-ownership and international partnership.

Over the course of more than three decades, TICAD has consolidated itself as a concert space between Africa and its development partners, focusing on peace consolidation, good governance, regional integration and economic growth.

The conference is co-organized by international partners such as the United Nations (UN), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the World Bank and the African Union Commission (CUA), with the participation of private sector representatives, civil society and academic institutions.

Alternately performed between Japan and African countries, TICAD culminates with the adoption of a political statement and an action plan that guide the priorities of dialogue between Africa and Japan.

In previous editions, topics related to industrialization, education, health, food safety, infrastructure, climate change and digital transformation were discussed.
