Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Transport, Ricardo d’Abreu, stated that the rehabilitation of the Zenza section from Itombe (Cuanza-Norte) to Cacuso (Malanje) will provide greater quality to travel, in addition to increasing the flow of people and goods from one point to the next. other.
In reaction to the speech by MPLA leader, João Lourenço, at the launch of the 2024 political agenda, aimed at the well-being of Angolans, the Minister of Transport guaranteed, within the framework of the implementation of rehabilitation actions for transport infrastructures, that the province of Malanje will have train circulation again.
Among the challenges, Ricardo d’Abreu highlighted the continuity of the public transport expansion program, as one of the Executive’s priorities. “It is part of our agenda, and we will seek to consolidate, in this period ahead, to ensure that we have significant improvements in terms of Public Transport in Luanda and other provinces of the country”.
The passenger train to Malanje was stopped last year due to technical issues. At this time, the environmental impact studies on the Zenza do Itombe (Cuanza-Norte)- Cacuso (Malanje) route, on a 215-kilometre route, are in the final phase, and, next, the laying of the rails will be launched.
Recently, the PCA of the Luanda Railways (CFL), Manuel Kanda Kanda, said that only after the rails have been improved will the transport of people be resumed, as the cancellation took into account the safety of passengers.
Regarding ongoing actions, the leader of the comrades’ party highlighted that the MPLA is working to boost the growth and well-being of Angolans, challenges that will only be achieved “if we manage to organize our economy well and guarantee economic development and social aspects of the country”.
Railway traffic on the Luanda/Malanje section has been interrupted since last year, due to the derailment of a fuel train with 14 wagons, carrying 818 tons of diesel.
The accident occurred at kilometer point 230, in the town of Lússu, 10 kilometers from the city of Ndalatando and resulted in the overturn of eight tank cars and damage to around 150 meters of railway line. In 2021, the CFL recorded two accidents on this section.
