Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Huíla has been experiencing a diesel shortage at fuel stations, which is affecting passenger and freight transport.
At the main fuel stations where the product is available, there are long queues of heavy trucks and passenger buses, in particular. At other stations, only customers with contracts are allowed to refuel.
Sonangol Regional South representative declined to comment, however, a source in the logistics area located in the industrial zone of Lubango said that the shortage is due to delays in the docking of ships at the Port of Namibe, which is putting pressure on local reserves and that the problem could be overcome by next weekend.
Huila governor, Nuno Mahapi, at Thursday’s regular government meeting, said he had not received any information from the national fuel concessionaire about the causes of the problem.
However, he admitted that it is affecting the normal functioning of institutions, especially in terms of logistical support for the fight against cholera, as well as in the supply of electricity to the municipalities of Lubango, Chibia, Palanca, and Humpata, given that part of the electricity comes from the Arimba thermal power plant.
The fuel that supplies Huíla, Cuando, Cubango, and Cunene comes from the regional storage base in the Port of Namibe. It arrives in Lubango by truck and is stored at the industrial zone base, from where it is redistributed to different destinations in the southern region.
