Africa-Press – Angola. Cooperation between Angola and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was discussed this Friday in Luanda, during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the representative of this body in the country, Denise António.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Angolan diplomatic service (in Mutamba), downtown Luanda, and served as an opportunity for the two entities to review the current state of cooperation between the Angolan Government and the UNDP and identify new areas of intervention.
It also served as an opportunity for the resident representative of the UNDP in Angola to reaffirm her strong commitment to supporting the Angolan Presidency of the African Union (AU), through strategic and technical assistance.Building on previous engagements with the AU Presidencies of Comoros and Mauritania, Denise António said that UNDP, through its Country Office in Angola and Regional Office for Africa, proposes a structured collaboration aligned with national and continental priorities.
Key areas of collaboration include support for the upcoming Infrastructure Development Summit (in partnership with AUDA-NEPAD), including preparatory and follow-up actions to strengthen Angola’s convening role in continental infrastructure investment.
UNDP says it stands ready to mobilize its technical capabilities in Luanda and Addis Ababa and through its Regional Service Centre to ensure effective and timely support to Angola.
The Angolan diplomat addressed issues related to institutional coordination with sectoral ministries, urged the need to strengthen coordination with provincial governments and recommended aligning UNDP actions with the priorities set out in the 2023–2027 National Development Plan.Angola, as a member of the international community and a signatory to the United Nations 2030 Agenda, has actively collaborated with UN agencies to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been one of the Angolan Government’s main partners in development issues.
UNDP has been operating in Angola since 1977 and has supported the eradication of poverty, the reduction of inequalities, the promotion of democratic governance, recovery from crises and environmental sustainability, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
The 2024-2028 Cooperation Framework between the Angolan Government and the United Nations System is aligned with the National Development Plan 2023-2027 and the Long-Term Strategy “Angola 2050”, while embodying the principle of leaving no one behind, reflected in its joint, inclusive and participatory design.The general objective is to contribute to inclusive sustainable development in Angola, promoting poverty reduction, economic growth with social inclusion, strengthening democracy and social justice, environmental protection and community resilience.
