Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to South Korea, Sianga Abílio, representing the country that chairs the African Union (AU), co-chaired a meeting in Seoul on Tuesday between South Korea and representatives of AU member states, aimed at strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two parties.
According to a press release from the Angolan embassy in Seoul, the meeting, which brought together delegates from 47 African countries, aimed to assess the progress report of the Africa-South Korea partnership since the Africa-Korea Summit held in June 2024, and to analyze new ways to deepen cooperation in priority sectors.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Sianga Abílio highlighted the role of President João Lourenço at the head of the African Union, emphasizing his firm and pragmatic leadership in defending peace, stability, and sustainable development on the African continent.The diplomat recalled that the Angolan Head of State hosted the 3rd Summit on Infrastructure Financing in Africa, recently held in Luanda, demonstrating Angola’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and continental integration.
During the meeting, African representatives presented cooperation proposals to be included in the final report, which will be considered at the meeting of Foreign Ministers scheduled for June 2026 in Seoul.
The proposals prioritize areas such as Health, Education, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Science, Innovation and Technology.In turn, the South Korean government delegation presented data on financial support granted to the African continent, highlighting the disbursement of approximately one billion dollars between 2023 and 2025, and a further 636 million dollars between 2024 and 2025, applied to 117 projects distributed across 19 African countries.
The Korean delegation was headed by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eui-Hae Cecilia Chung, while Ambassador Sianga Abílio led the African delegates.
In the end, both parties endorsed the joint report, which will be presented in the form of a Final Declaration.
Participants congratulated the Angolan ambassador for the exemplary way he conducted the proceedings, highlighting his fluency in English and French, which facilitated interaction and understanding between the Francophone and Anglophone delegations.
