Africa-Press – Angola. At least fifty citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were detained by the National Police in Moxico Province for possession of fraudulently obtained identity cards (ID), the provincial delegate of the Interior, Sub-Commissioner Dias do Nascimento, reported on Tuesday, in Luena.
Speaking at a meeting with local traditional authorities to discuss public security, the Moxico provincial commander of the National Police informed that the alleged offenders received help from Angolan citizens in exchange for money.
He said that a more thorough investigation is underway to arrest other individuals who are part of the fraud network.
Dias do Nascimento explained that the province has been a gateway for foreigners coming from other parts of the country, particularly from Luanda.
To reinforce public safety in the region, the police chief informed that the National Police will increase its presence in the communities, as well as establish fixed and mobile police stations with the intention of maintaining order and tranquility among the population.
He acknowledged that it have been constant illegal acts such as robbery, theft, rape of minors, murders resulting from belief in witchcraft, as well as environmental crimes.
On the occasion, local official João Canhenge advocated for closer coordination between traditional authorities and the National Police to ensure security in the communities.
