Africa-Press – Angola. The National Youth MMA Team debuted on Tuesday with a silver medal at the Junior Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) World Championship, which runs until July 28 in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.
The Angolan feat was achieved by Gizela Luna, in the youth C (-48kg) category.
Gizela Luna won the three first fights against athletes such as Miriam Al Suwaidi (Saudi Arabia), Georgina Green (England), and Khrystyna Khryzhun (Ukraine).
In the final, she was defeated by submission by American Sky Ramos.
The other Angolan athlete, Rafael Gombe, won his opening match against Ukrainian Bohdan Nosyk, but was eliminated in the following one by Armenian Ruben Sargasyan.
Athletes Gabriela Cerqueira and Monica Cardoso were eliminated at the competition’s initial stage.
Angola returns to the competition’s arena on Wednesday with athletes Dario Sousa and Stelvia Muhanha, in the youth B category.
