Africa-Press – Angola. The narrowing of parliamentary cooperation between Angola and the Republic of India was the main topic addressed at the audience that the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, granted the Indian ambassador, Viduh Nair.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the Indian diplomat said that the objective was to address the mechanisms for the possibility of cooperation between the two countries, noting that India has one of the greatest democracies and Angola is currently the leader of the African Union (UA).

In this regard, he stressed that in 2024, during the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union (UIP), there was, through a group of parliamentarians from his country, interaction for the feat, now intending to materialize it with the creation of a broader structure.

There were contacts between the two institutions so that there is a greater narrowing of cooperation, having advanced that a plan will be prepared for this purpose.

In the field of parliamentary training, he stressed that they will work to exchange experience between the Indian Parliament Formative Institution and the National Assembly Academy.

He added that in May of the current year, during the visit of President João Lourenço to his country, among other topics, he addressed with the Indian leader the engagement of both parliaments for the narrowing of relationships.

Asked about bilateral relations, he considered crucial to India, noting that they are currently the largest buyers of Angola’s oil, an initiative that serves for global energy safety.

At the level of business, they needed that they are in the top three, in business partnerships, as well as have a very large community to invest in the national territory and to create various jobs for nationals.

Cooperation between Angola and India has been considered cordial and stable since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1985.

India is an important commercial partner of Angola, being the third largest, especially the purchase of Angolan gross oil.

Bilateral trade has grown, reaching $ 3.2 billion by 2021, with an increase in Indian exports to Angola. Both nations have shown interest in further strengthening this relationship through greater visits and collaboration in various sectors.
