Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned, at the end of the afternoon of Tuesday (22), to the country’s capital, Luanda, after a working day of a few hours in Mavinga, Cuando province.
Upon arrival, the Angolan leader received greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, and other high entities of the Angolan State.
In his trip, the first after the institutionalization of the province within the framework of the New Political and Administrative Division, President João Lourenço met with members of the local government to address issues of social and economic interest and outline strategies to boost its development.
On the occasion, several decisions were taken, including that of giving a new dynamic to the construction of the Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga/Rivungo road, on a route of about 200 kilometers, with a view to its completion in the shortest possible time.
The Statista also held a meeting with the local population, where he argued that in relation to the Cuito Cuanavale/Mavinga section, a new route was identified, as it was concluded that the old road was not well located, since it passed through water sources that made circulation difficult.
He also informed that for this purpose, demining has already been carried out and that now the work will begin.
According to the President, the works have already begun, albeit timidly, but will gain new momentum from Wednesday, when a presidential decree will be signed authorizing an additional credit to accelerate the execution of the project.
The President reinforced that the construction of the road will allow the development not only of Mavinga, but of the entire province of Cuando, with more access to health, better housing, more employment and better communication routes with the rest of the country.
The program also included audiences with the kings of the Kingdoms of Mavinga, Cuito Cuanavale, Dirico and Rivungo and religious entities, in addition to the delivery of goods and vehicles to the provincial government of Cuando.
