Africa-Press – Angola. The Cunene Water and Sanitation Company (EASC) collected 100.473 million kwanzas in the second quarter of this year, well below the accumulated debt of customers, which is around 441.858 million kwanzas.

Of the registered payment, the company observed a reduction in the financial inflow of 33.65 million kwanzas in relation to the previous period.

The reduction is due to irregularities in the monthly payment of water consumption by some customers, according to the administrator for the Company’s Financial area, Veridiana José.

This Tuesday, he explained that the accumulated debt is around 44.858 million kwanzas.

According to the person in charge, only three million kwanzas were recovered during the quarter, an amount considered very small for the needs of the company.

Of the total amount of the debt, 60% was contracted by public institutions that, at the time of collection, “always claim to depend on the General State Budget, and often take a long time to pay”.

In view of the high volume of accumulated debt, the official calls on debtors to understand that the company’s stability in providing better services is essential, hence the need to regularly comply with monthly payments.

Despite the amount still to be recovered, the Company carries out a campaign to assemble and recover meters, at this point, 1,392 have already been installed, many of them previously vandalized (620), mostly in Santa Clara.

“We are making the community aware of the advantages of the meters that serve both the customer and the company, having control of monthly water consumption and paying the amount according to expenses”, he said.

In terms of home connections, he recalled that 1,103 were made, in the Onahumba neighbourhood, in Ondjiva, at this time the process of signing contracts with new customers is underway.

In the period in question, there were 15 ruptures, due to the main network that needs maintenance, but what makes this work difficult is the lack of accessories to replace the old ones in the local market.

Veridiana José said that they also received 561 complaints, of which 371 were resolved, related to the lack of water pressure, slowness of the system during service and reduced hours.

The Cunene Water and Sanitation Company has made 14,907 home connections, but the 3,922 customers have avoided paying for consumption.

Cunene has a Water Treatment Station (ETA), located in the municipality of Ombadja, with the capacity to pump 24 million liters of drinking water per day, and has a distribution pipeline of 182,780 kilometers.

The Company also controls 50 fountains in full operation, out of the 141 controlled at provincial level.

The company currently has 10,900,985 customers in the cities of Ondjiva, Calueque, Xangongo, Humbe, Môngua, Santa-Clara, Namacunde and Cahama.
