Africa-Press – Angola. UNITA presidential candidate Adalberto Costa Júnior visited Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, on Monday afternoon to persuade delegates to attend the party’s 14th ordinary congress, to be held from the 28th to the 30th of this month in Luanda.
Two candidates are vying for the top position in UNITA: Adalberto Costa Júnior and Rafael Massanga Savimbi.
“The pursuit of democratic legitimacy at the congress aims to create a solid foundation for fulfilling the program for the 2027 general elections,” said Adalberto Júnior during an event with party members.
The politician stated that his candidacy for re-election was encouraged by the party’s internal structures and other figures in civil society.
In the World Heritage city, Adalberto Costa Júnior was received by the governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, and the bishop of the diocese of Mbanza Kongo, Vicente Carlos Kiaziku.
The party leader has already visited the provinces of Malanje, Cuanza-Norte, Icolo e Bengo, Bengo, and Luanda.
