Africa-Press – Angola. The theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations” dominates the debates of the Ordinary Session of the sixth Legislature of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), which opened this Monday (3), in Midrand, South Africa.
The session, chaired by the PAP President, the Zimbabwean Fortune Charumbira, takes place under the motto chosen by the African Union (AU) for the year 2025, whose presidency is held by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.
The meeting began with the investiture and swearing-in of new members of the Pan-African Parliament, marking the start of a cycle of debates focused on promoting historical justice and recognizing reparations as an instrument of equity and dignity for African peoples and their diasporas.
Angola is represented by Members of Parliament Manuel Augusto, head of the delegation, and Arlete Borges, who are participating in the work of the body’s specialized committees.
During the sessions, parliamentarians will also analyze issues related to security on the continent, focusing on the crises in Sudan and Madagascar, as well as evaluate the measures adopted by the AU bodies and the PAP itself.
Issues relating to Human Rights in Africa, the Model Law on Labor Migration, as well as the promotion of gender equality and equity are also on the agenda, reaffirming the role of the Pan-African Parliament as a forum for debate and continental political integration.
