Africa-Press – Angola. Simão Muanda is the president of the Angolan Boxing Federation, for the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC), according to president Berhanu Eyassu Wossen. In a letter sent to Simão Muanda, the African leader expresses recognition of the presidency and offers support for the promotion of the sport in the country.
“On behalf of the African Boxing Confederation, it is an honour for me to formally recognise you as President of the Angolan Boxing Federation. Your leadership in this role is a vital force for the advancement of boxing in Angola, and reflects the shared values and aspirations of our continental boxing community. Please accept our unwavering support and respect as you take your federation forward,” it reads.
The AFBC said it is committed to working closely with Faboxe in promoting the growth of boxing, not only in the country but also on the continent. “Together, we can strengthen the foundations of boxing, inspire emerging athletes and raise the standards of excellence and integrity in our sport. We look forward to a fruitful and collaborative relationship with the Angola Boxing Federation under their esteemed guidance. Rest assured that the AFBC will be by their side in all efforts to promote the success and visibility of boxing at the national and continental levels.”
Simão Muanda was elected president of FABOXE at a general meeting called by members, following the dispute that followed his removal from office in the 2020 electoral process. The election was later rendered unfeasible by the Luanda Provincial Court which, through a precautionary measure, restored possession of the federation’s facilities to Carlos Luís, who claimed the presidency of the institution for himself.
This is the second time that the AFBC has spoken out in favor of the management at Faboxe. Previously, the secretary-general of the previous term, André Basile Kalong, issued a circular in which he recognized Carlos Luís, to the detriment of Simão Muanda, elected on May 27, 2023. André Basile was later suspended from his duties.
