Africa-Press – Angola. The senior men’s national fencing team won a silver medal on Sunday (29), at the African fencing championship, held from the 25th to the 30th of the current month, in the city of Lagos, Nigeria.

The information, published on the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ website (https://www.minjud.gov.ao), highlights that this conquest demonstrates the evolution of the sport in the country and puts Angola on the radar of the continent’s great forces.

“The silver medal achieved in this championship’s Edition is the result of years of dedication, intense training and a project that has been built seriously”, it reads.

According to the ministry’s publication, the feat is even more notable for being achieved in a demanding and little-known sport, where investment and focus are decisive.

At the continental event, Angola faced experienced teams such as Egypt, Tunisia and South Africa.

However, a note from the Angolan embassy in Nigeria states that the gold medal in the men’s competition was won by Egypt and the bronze by Algeria.

The women’s national team came in 4th place.

The Angolan men’s team includes fencers Luís Macedo (Frascatis Cherma from Italy), Walter Barros (Bristol Blades Fencing Club from London), Daniel Tchipongue, Anastácio Tchiquete (Vila Clotilde from Luanda), António Pedro, Francisco Manuel and Tomás Pedro (Ginásio Clube Português).

The women’s team includes Ana Ndovala (Ferroviário do Huambo), Maria Messamessa (Petro Atlético do Huambo) and Virgínia Valentim (Vila Clotilde from Luanda).

Yusufo Kiamuanga and Eduardo Pereira are the coaches, Paulo Luís and Alice Guerreiro the physiotherapists.
