Africa-Press – Angola. A campaign to promote reading habits, on the initiative of Centro Cultural Dr. António Agostinho Neto, takes place since yesterday, in Luanda, with the purpose of instilling these practices in students.
The campaign started at school 1.303, known as “Escola do Funge”, in the municipality of Luanda, with the participation of over one hundred students.
During the initiative, writer Domingas Monte encourages students to read, considering it important that these habits are cultivated from an early age.
The writer said that it is necessary to take 30 minutes or an hour a day so that the child does not lose the habit of reading.
“Reading is the best weapon to defend oneself and the biggest door to open new horizons, so we want to re-awaken in children, at an early age, the habit and taste for reading, hence the idea of these activities”.
He regretted, however, the lack of interest of adults in taking their children to libraries for reading time.
On the occasion, the Cultural Center Library won a donation of several books by Angolan authors, delivered by the Faculty of Sciences of the Agostinho Neto University.
