Africa-Press – Angola. The production of roots and tubers, during the 2020/2021 agricultural season in Angola, reached a figure of 12 million 141 thousand tons of tubers.

According to data provided by the Angolan authorities, the levels verified in the production and harvest of cassava were estimated at 8 million tons per year.

This indicator allowed Angola to be autonomous in cassava and placed the country in the position of one of the largest producers of cassava countries in the world with more than 8 million tons per year.

Cassava is widely consumed in the north of Angola and where it is most produced. After being transformed into bombo flour, it is one of the main foods consumed in the north of Angola.

The list that the newspaper had access to also highlights the production of eggs, which reached around 1,785,546,000 units per year, while vegetables reached 1,895,000 tons and fruit, that of 5,768,000,877 tons.

As for cereals, the data point to a harvest of three million 065 thousand tons.

In the same period, according to the document mentioned above, sugar production stood at 939,088 tons/year, rice 10,514, poultry 13,509,000 beaks and coal with an average production of 2,145 kilograms per province annually.

Citrus production reached 445,300 tons/year, honey 66,600 liters and wood amounted to 31,721 cubic meters, fish 300,000 tons, coffee 5,300 tons of coffee and salt amounted to 182 a thousand tons.

In this way, Angola has become the first banana producer in Africa and 7th in the world with 14 million 928 thousand tons/year, fifth producer of sweet potato in the world with 1 million 728 thousand tons/year and fifth largest producer of citrus with over 425 thousand tons.
