Angola and El Salvador begin diplomatic relations

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the Republic of El Salvador began, this Monday, the establishment of diplomatic relations, to promote mutual understanding and strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation in areas of common interest.

The commitment was formalized in New York City, United States of America (USA), with a Joint Statement signed by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Alexandra Hill Tinoco.

The agreement was established under the terms of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 24 April 1963, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

With this step, States reaffirm their commitment to the principles and purposes enshrined in the United Nations Charter and international law, including respect for the promotion of international peace and security, equality between States, respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.

The subscribers of the statement, duly authorized by their respective Governments, signed the document in three original copies, in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

According to the document, all texts are authentic, and in case of discrepancies in interpretation, the English version will prevail.

Speaking to the press at the end of the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said that El Salvador is a State that Angola can count on.

According to the official, the Angolan authorities plan to take the same step with other countries with which they also do not have established diplomatic relations, such as Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
